Nicholas O’Hara Funeral Directors has officially provided funding for three community projects in Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset, marking the first round of its community fund.
News comes as the Dorset-based funeral provider, which is a member of the Funeral Partners network, officially launched the scheme in February to support non-profit projects within three miles of its seven branches.
Loneliness Together received £450 to train volunteers for its befriending clubs, while Hope Housing was awarded £500 for starter packs to help formerly homeless people settle into accommodation.
In addition, children’s charity Dingley’s Promise received £2,467 to complete a sensory garden.
Business principals Anthony O’Hara and Natalie O’Hara, along with funeral director Jon Austin, presented the cheques last week (12 June).
To qualify for the scheme, projects must focus on health, education, employment or poverty alleviation. The funeral provider will open the second cycle of funding on Monday 29 June.
Anthony O’Hara said: “We are delighted to be able to offer support to these caring projects in the local area. All these organisations are helping to make a real difference to people’s lives, providing much-needed support to local people.
“Our Community Assistance Programme highlights the positivity that’s happening right on our doorstep, and we are looking forward to seeing these projects continue and grow.”
