A funeral director from the Co-operative Funeralcare in Barnsley has achieved a professional qualification recognising his work with the bereaved.

Mark Whitehurst of Thurgoland achieved the B-Tec Professional Diploma in Funeral Directing after a two-year period of studying.

Mark originally joined the profession five years ago, leaving his role as a transport supervisor to become a funeral service worker in Doncaster. He quickly progressed through the industry and rose to the position of funeral director in 2009, before transferring to the home on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.

The qualification covers all aspects of the role of funeral director such as caring for the deceased; funeral law; communicating with clients; and arranging a funeral.

Mark commented: “I feel very privileged to work in this profession and I’m really pleased to be progressing in my role. I love my job and can’t see myself doing any other kind of work now.”
