A PE teacher’s appeal resulted in the Co-operative Funeralcare sponsoring the recent Newcastle Catholic Schools Cross Country Championships.

Competitors from under 9s boys and girls and under 11s boys and girls from the St Bede’s, St Albans, St Charles and St John Vianny schools took part in the event.

Ian Beck, the PE teacher whose call was answered, said: “A big thank you goes to The Co-operative Funeralcare for all their efforts at the event and the sponsorship of the races. All the children seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.”

Funeralcare’s regional manager Tim Bloomer presented trophies to all the individual winners, second and third places, as well as medals to the winners of the team events.
