Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium has announced the opening of a designated burial area to serve the local Muslim community.

The new section has capacity for at least 500 graves. All burials in this area will be conducted within 24 to 48 hours of a death in accordance with the religion’s customs. Management also confirmed that graves will be oriented to face the Qibla.

The site, which is operated by Westerleigh Group, also maintains a multi-faith area alongside the new dedicated section.

Daren Trinder, manager of Forest Park Cemetery and Crematorium, said: “We are fully committed to creating spaces to accommodate diverse faiths and cultures, and the opening of our newly-designated Muslim section in our cemetery, in addition to a multi-faith area, will help ensure the needs of all our nearby communities are met.

“It is our privilege to open this dedicated cemetery within our grounds and we look forward to supporting the needs of our bereaved Muslim community here.”
