Primary school children in Aberdeen have the chance to play in a new football competition and win £200 for their school, thanks to a local funeral home.

Ten schools from across the city will compete for the prize and glory of winning the first Wm Gilchrist Invitational seven-a-side football tournament, which was created and sponsored by Aberdeen funeral directors Wm Gilchrist.

Mac Dow, manager of Wm Gilchrist, said: “We really wanted to give something back to the community and thought this might be a wee bit of fun at the end of the school year.”

The teams will be split into two leagues, with the winners of each league facing off in a final to determine the overall winner. All children participating in the tournament will receive a medal.
