The Willows Natural Burial Ground has for the fifth year running, won The People’s Award for Best Natural Burial Ground in the East of Britain (organised by The Natural Death Centre Charity). The family run burial ground is situated in South Croxton, Leicestershire.

The family business is owned by married couple Chris and Jenny Scroby. Their own parents and children can often be found at site maintaining and monitoring the up-keep of the natural burial ground. The Willows employs a local man who digs all the graves by hand, often helped by his family.

The Willows Natural Burial Ground is substantially more an emerging natural woodland and wildflower meadow, than a graveyard.

Owners Jenny and Chris Scroby said: “We believe it is crucial to support small, local family businesses and to recognise their successes.”
