Phoenix Memorial Diamonds of Macclesfield has created a world first diamond made from honey bees.

Following on from previous Phoenix Memorial Diamonds world firsts, such as the ‘Jessica Diamond’ made from an umbilical cord, two ‘Honey Bee Diamonds’ have been made by extracting carbon from 250 dead bees (which died of natural causes).

The company’s MD Mike Kelly is aiming to help make the world aware of the plight of honey bees. It is feared that bees, whose survival is integral to the human race, are being killed off by insecticides faster than they can reproduce.

The honey coloured diamonds will be auctioned off by two bee organisations later in the year. The profits from the auction will be donated towards the research of ‘hive death’.
