A new website has been launched which enables people to share experiences of different funeral directors.
Funeral Advisor aims to help people get the right funeral for them, by reading reviews from members of the public.
Chair of trustees at the Natural Death Centre Fran Hall said: “The Natural Death Centre Charity works closely with funeral directors, especially our recommended funeral directors, currently numbering around 140 branches. We know that there is a lot of variation in the funeral industry and consumers can often be inexperienced and vulnerable.
“We have long felt the need for a way for the public to find good funeral directors, and we are delighted to be involved in this new website, which we believe will do just that. Funeral Advisor lets people review the funeral directors that they have used, with a view to helping other people make the right decisions. Funeral directors can be reassured that all reviews are tracked and moderated for appropriateness before posting.
“We believe that by encouraging clients who have had superb service from a funeral director to publicly tell the world, Funeral Advisor will help spread the word about the many funeral directors who make such a difference to bereaved families.
“We hope that all enlightened funeral directors will embrace the idea, and encourage satisfied clients to share their experience through submitting a review. This will benefit not only bereaved families in the future, but all those funeral directors who are currently known only locally to be exemplary.”
Jon Underwood of Impermanence Ltd added: “Funeral Advisor has been built from scratch and we believe it is the most sophisticated website about funeral directors in the country. Funeral directors can build a profile on the site for free, including listing details of their ‘basic funeral’ and ‘direct cremation’ options if they have them. We want to showcase the best of the funeral industry alongside enabling people to have their say.”
Funeral Advisor was launched last month at the Joy of Death festival in Bournemouth and can be viewed at www.funeraladvisor.org.uk
