A.W. Lymn appoints new GM of M.A. Mills Funeral Service

Julia Carty, who has worked in the funeral industry for over 30 years, takes charge of M.A. Mills’ homes across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derby

A.W. Lymn has announced the appointment of Julia Carty as the new general manager of M.A. Mills Funeral Service, after more than two decades at the family-run company.

Carty, who has worked in the funeral industry for over 30 years, takes charge of M.A. Mills’ homes across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derby. The move follows A.W. Lymn’s acquisition and expansion of M.A. Mills earlier this year.

She began her career in 1989 as a funeral arranger at the Greater Nottingham Co-operative Society, later working in pub management before returning to the funeral sector in 1994. That year she was recruited by the Ilkeston Consumer Co-operative Society, which was acquired by A.W. Lymn in 2003.

Prior to her appointment, Carty held the role of principal funeral director.

The appointment comes after three former A.W. Lymn funeral homes in Allenton, Cotmanhay and Aspley were rebranded under the M.A. Mills name. The original M.A. Mills’ home in Radcliffe-on-Trent remains in operation.

Carty said: “We’re incredibly passionate about offering the same quality and family service synonymous with A.W. Lymn, in a streamlined approach, to best cater to our local communities. We’re delighted with how we have been received and trusted by families across Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire so far.

“Funeral care has always been my calling, and I simply can’t imagine doing anything else. While any role in the industry can be emotionally challenging, my team and I take great pride in supporting our communities when they need us most, and being a safe pair of hands to help guide them through their options and make the best decisions for them.”

She added: “Matthew [Lymn Rose] and my wider team have been incredibly supportive while I step into this new role, and continue to develop our relationships with the families we serve. Our focus is to give them the quality of care and service they know and expect.”
