Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has revealed that Kent and Sussex Crematorium has donated £10k to the bereavement charity Holding On Letting Go, which supports children and young people following the death of a loved one.

The charity provides specialist services across Kent and south-east London, helping young people to cope with grief and loss. Support is offered free to families and includes tailored programmes for children and young people.

The donation was generated through the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s national metals recycling scheme following cremations, including orthopaedic implants and metal components from coffins, with the consent of bereaved families. Funds raised through the scheme are passed on to local bereavement charities.

Since its launch in 2007, the ICCM scheme has raised more than £20m for bereavement-related charities.

A spokesperson for Holding On Letting Go said: “Your donation of £10k for us, as a small and local charity is so very appreciated and as stated in our current ‘£350 for 300’ campaign, with a nominal cost of £350 to support a child though our bespoke bereavement services (free to all the families we support) this sum will help almost 30 children to receive that programme of help at a time they need it most; and to help move forwards positively from the grief following the death of a loved one.

“We also work with schools and other professionals to help them understand and support children and young people, too – so you can be sure your generous funding is far-reaching.”
