Golden Charter appoints new CEO

Golden Charter has appointed Mark Huggins as a new chief executive with immediate effect following the sudden passing of Charlie Norman in August.

Huggins has been the funeral plan provider’s chair and has been on its board for six years.

As funeral plans are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, he will have the title CEO designated until the required regulatory checks are complete.

John Thornton, who was at the helm of the firm’s board from 2018 to 2023, will resume his role as chair, filling the vacancy left by the newly appointed chief executive.

The funeral plan provider, which was established in 1990, works with more than 2,900 independent funeral directors throughout the UK.

Claire Zuurbier, Golden Charter non-executive director, said: “Both Mark and John have extensive leadership experience in regulated financial services, and of course, have invaluable knowledge of our business, our market, our customers and our network of partners. These appointments, therefore, will provide the leadership continuity and stability to enable us to successfully achieve our ambitious goals in the coming months and years.”
