National charity, Cruse Bereavement Care announces new CEO

Cruse Bereavement Care, charity for bereaved people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, announced the appointment of Steven Wibberley as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Wibberley will take up post on 26 March 2018 and replace Debbie Kerslake who announced her retirement last year.

He joins Cruse following five years as COO at the British Lung Foundation where he was responsible for a wide range of services and support for people living with lung conditions across the UK.

Fiona Edwards, chair of Cruse said, “We are looking forward to welcoming Steven to Cruse at this exciting stage in the charity’s development. His appointment comes at a critical time as we look to consolidate and expand Cruse’s position as the leading bereavement care charity in the UK, with a key strategic aim of reaching more bereaved people than ever before.”

Wibberley has over 25 years’ experience working in and around health services. His career in the NHS ranged from working in health promotion to London regional director at NHS Direct. He moved into the voluntary sector in 2009 and worked at Macmillan Cancer Support, leading programmes on information, financial support and work support for people with cancer before moving to the British Lung Foundation in 2012.

Wibberley said, “I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead Cruse. The staff and volunteers in Cruse provide incredible support to thousands of people affected by bereavement. In her ten years leading the charity, Debbie Kerslake has taken it from strength to strength. I look forward to working with the team at Cruse as we move into a new phase in the development and delivery of high quality bereavement support.”
