Contractors uncover sign from the 1950s

While carrying out building renovations, contractors in Leicester stumbled across a funeral home advertisement dating back to the 1950s.

The Ginns & Gutteridge sign from 1957 was found following the removal of a modern billboard. After realising that the funeral home still exists today and is part of the Dignity group, the contractors contacted area manager, Wayne Goddard.

Bill Ginns, a consultant for Dignity, recalls his father and business partner commissioning the work in 1957. Both Bill and Wayne went to visit the painted advert which has been boarded up for 60 years and has remained in almost pristine condition.

They found it an overwhelming experience. The advert was photographed for posterity before it is lost forever once the building is painted over.
