A seven-person team from Scotmid Co-operative Funeral Directors got on their bikes and took part in the Pedal for Scotland cycling event on 9 September, raising £735 for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

The Scotmid Funerals team consisted of James Blackburn, head of funerals, plus six colleagues: Chris Armstrong, Iain Bell, Paul Simpson, Brian Temple, Adrian Turner and Gavin Weir.

Pedal for Scotland is an annual event in the Scottish cycling calendar with around 8,500 people cycling the route between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The team completed the 47 miles in 3.5 hours, which marked a significant improvement on last year’s effort.

James said: “The cycle ride was hard work but great fun too. We had some great weather and a lot of support from our colleagues at the Kirkliston rest stop.”

James also took part in the Great Edinburgh Run on 7 October, adding to the amount raised for Maggie’s, Scotmid’s charity partner of the year.
