A funeral home in Withington, Manchester, has been officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Manchester.

The funeral home on Copson Street opened on 3 January before Lord Mayor Coun Harry Lyons JP unveiled a plaque to officially open the premises on 23 April.

Two reverends from local churches and Shirley George from the British Humanist Association led a dedication and blessing of the chapel of rest, during which prayers were said and a poem was read.

Manager Gordon Whitehead said: “We have served the community of Withington from our Chorlton funeral home for some years. Now that we have a presence on Copson Street we look forward to building links within the community and providing professional care for local bereaved families.”
