Volunteers in Middlesbrough were rewarded for their contribution and support to organisations throughout the city.
Brian Tweedy of Longlands Area Residents Association (LARA) was the recipient of the Funeralcare-sponsored award for his life-long services to the scouting movement and for making improvements for residents of Longlands.
Earlier this year, Brian, aged 78, retired as assistant district commissioner of the scouting movement after being involved in it from the age of 10; and as chairman of LARA, he has overseen the raising of almost £200,000 to develop a park for the local community.
When he’s not volunteering for Teeside Hospice, Brian can be found in the park planting shrubs or picking up litter. Alma Dennison of LARA described him as “a good citizen; he’s always there when you need a friend. He is a true gentleman and a friend of the community.”
