Management buy out of funeral business in Fort William
Lochaber’s longest serving funeral firm, John McLellan and Company Ltd, has undergone a management buy out, led by Scott Greenlees.
The independent business has been purchased from Mr and Mrs MacPhie who had owned the company since 2000. Scott has been employed by John McLellan and Company Ltd for four years now, and has established himself as the main funeral director working for the business.
Following the business purchase Scott aims to continue the established traditions of quality service and support to families in their time of need. Scott brings to the business his experience in the funeral profession that includes a period with D. Chisholm and Sons Ltd in Inverness and with Mark Shaw Funeral Services Ltd in Aberdeen.
As professional funeral directors, the company is a member of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors and abides by their strict codes of practice. Scott is also strong supporter of Golden Charter funeral plans and recommends that families make their arrangements today, especially in these times of increasing funeral costs and fees for cremation and burial.
The investment in the business was made possible with the additional support of funding from Hanus Equity Ltd. From this association the team will benefit from hands-on support from Pete O’Neill and Gordon Fergusson, who together, bring a number of years experience in the funeral profession.
Pete has held office as CEO for Golden Charter (learn more by clicking here), the UK’s leader provider of funeral plans and also as CEO of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors in the UK. During his time he has also held office as Council Chairman of the Funeral Ombudsman Scheme and Chairman of the Funeral Planning Authority. His work in the funeral planning profession saw him as part of the initial steering group that led to the formation of the Funeral Planning Authority.
Gordon brings over 30 years of business experience having worked for one of the big four firm of accountants. During his time, many years were involved with Golden Charter assisting both the company and the trust to grow and develop from a standing start in his role as company secretary and finance director.
