East of England Co-op Funeral Services will be supporting Dying Matters Awareness Week from May 9 – 15. The theme is ‘The Big Conversation’ and business will be encouraging its local region to have The Big Conversation about all the little things that make a funeral special.
The East of England Co-op Funeral Services has seen an increase in funerals that are ‘celebrations of life’ that are as unique and individual as the person they are dedicated to.
The specialist business has seen a rise in more unique tributes; colour has become increasingly more important; the colour of the coffin, the coffin lining or the congregation’s dress code.
Andrew Dawes, East of England Co-op’s head of funeral services, commented: “Talking about dying won’t make it happen; it’s about making a challenging conversation easier, making it more manageable and personal. Family and friends often draw comfort by being able to take part in a funeral service and we hope that people become more comfortable planning ahead and discussing this, often considered taboo, subject.
“Talking about the little things can make the conversation less scary and it’s often these moments that really count when making a funeral special.”
