Lelley Fields Crematorium has announced it will be hosting a photography exhibition and journaling workshop on Saturday 25 April. The event, titled Projecting Grief, will run from 11am to 4pm at the Sproatley Road venue.

The exhibition will feature photographs and accounts from individuals who used creative expression to cope with bereavement, with a focus on how creative outlets can provide comfort and connection following the loss of a person.

A drop-in journaling workshop will also be available for attendees. The session aims to help participants express their own experiences and thoughts through writing.

Photographer Jo Ritchie and writer Laura McDonagh, who will be running the project, deliver exhibitions, creative workshops, and community events across the UK alongside an online gallery.

Staff from the crematorium will be present during the day to discuss available services. The event is free to attend, though the organisers will accept optional donations.

Lelley Fields, which opened in February 2023, was the first crematorium operated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the first new facility of its kind built in the area since the 20th Century.

Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This promises to be a particularly moving event, showing how people have coped with grief in their own ways, in the hope it inspires others.

“Any residents from across the area are welcome to attend, irrespective of whether they have used Lelley Fields before.”
