Douch Family Funeral Directors has become a shirt sponsor for Wimborne’s over 60s walking football team, backing the squad for its first season in the league structure.

The team, which entered competition in October, is playing in the club’s black-and-white stripes at the Wyatt Homes stadium complex off Leigh Road. The site includes all-weather pitches used by a range of community teams.

According to the funeral provider’s managing director Nick Douch, the company’s sporting links in the town made the partnership a natural fit.

Douch said: “We are very much community-based and walking football is growing quickly and we wanted to be a part of it. It is superb at getting people back into football and of course there is a great social side – and it retains a competitive edge.

“Wimborne Town is new to walking football but I understand the interest is huge. It is a pleasure to sponsor them; we have sponsored sports teams and sports leagues for decades and understand that they are an important part of community fabric.”

Team captain David Mears added: “Wimborne is a real community town. For the club to be able to extend its reach into walking football and to have a local company supporting us is a great marriage.

“In time, we plan to have more walking football teams representing Wimborne Town FC. Hopefully, competing in all the divisions (which start at age 50) for men and women.”

Douch Family Funeral Directors operates branches across Dorset, including in Wimborne, Ferndown, Wareham, Poole, Swanage, Corfe Mullen and Blandford.
