Colchester Crematorium has announced the launch of the electronic Book of Remembrance, which will provide residents easier access to the memorial method at any time.

Colchester City Council has made the ‘date search’ function available, with the ‘name search’ feature due to be introduced “in the near future”.

The Book of Remembrance, which serves as a memorial dedicated to loved ones, is housed in a specially designated room to the side of the crematorium near the flower court.

Each memorial inscription is hand-inscribed by a skilled calligrapher, and the Book is displayed year-round in a custom-built cabinet.

Cllr Natalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities, heritage, and public protection at Colchester City Council, said: “The new online Booking of Remembrance will make it easier for our community to honour and remember loved ones.

“It’s a small step towards ensuring these cherished memories remain accessible to everyone.”
