Berkshire funeral directors, Miles and Daughters, and North Down-based John Gray and Co Funeral Directors have both announced their community funds for 2024, having served their communities for 25 years and 60 years respectively.

Miles and Daughters has plans to award almost £6k to six more local causes within a three-mile radius of the company’s branches in Winnersh, Reading, Whitley Wood, Twyford, Bracknell, Crowthorne, Maidenhead, and Tadley.

In the first round, recipients included The Way Ministry Reading, receiving £1,477 for an emergency homeless night shelter; The Cowshed in Wokingham, receiving £1,500 for Noah Boxes aiding those in personal crises; Kilnsea Preschool in Reading, receiving £1k for a garden renovation; Wokingham and District Association for Elderly (WADE), receiving £1k for a lounge area refurbishment; and No5 Young People in Reading, receiving £850 for continued mental health support.

Meanwhile, John Gray and Co Funeral Directors has initiated its Community Assistance Programme, which has offered grants to five local causes near its funeral homes in Bangor, Holywood, and Newtownards.

According to the funeral provider, its programme focuses on empowering projects within a one-mile radius that address community issues and support the most disadvantaged.

The most recent grant benefited Kilcooley Women’s Centre in Bangor; Bangor First Presbyterian Church; Camphill Community in Holywood; Redburn Loughview Community Forum; and Ladybird Children’s Services in Bangor.

The initiatives, which are supported by Funeral Partners, have entered their next funding round earlier this month on 1 February and 8 January.
