East Devon District Council has launched a consultation on cemeteries in Seaton, Sidbury and Sidmouth after it recently updated its cemetery regulations.
As part of this consultation, the council has invited Devon residents to share their thoughts on the future of the district’s cemeteries via a survey.
The council is seeking to gauge whether the public agrees or disagrees that a single set of regulations should apply to all three cemeteries in East Devon.
East Devon aims to propose a unified set of regulations to be applicable across the three sites.
The new proposal would draw upon the existing regulations, the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order 1977, recent experience and best practices from across the country.
The cemetery regulations were last approved in the cases of Sidbury and Sidmouth in 1952, and Seaton in 1974. Since then, minor changes have been made, such as the introduction of the Seaton Woodland section.
The council will be accepting responses on the matter until 22 January 2024.
