North Devon Crematorium has donated £10k to the charity Families in Grief (FiG), with the funds generated through a national scheme that recycles metals recovered after cremation.
The cheque was presented during a visit by representatives from FiG to the crematorium on 13 January, where they were shown behind-the-scenes operations at the site.
The donation was funded through a recycling initiative run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM), which oversees the respectful and safe recovery of metals found in cremated remains. Proceeds from the scheme are distributed to charitable causes.
The scheme is designed to ensure materials are handled appropriately, with participating crematoria able to direct funds raised to organisations of their choice.
Staff at North Devon Crematorium hosted the visit and outlined the processes involved in supporting bereaved families, from funeral services through to cremation and aftercare.
The donation forms part of wider charitable giving supported by the recycling scheme, which operates across the UK cremation sector.
