Miles and Daughters Funeral Directors has distributed a total of £7k from its community fund to good causes within its local area in Reading.

The funeral provider, which is part of the Funeral Partners network, has served its community for a quarter of a century.

This marks the second round of the community fund, having already distributed £14k to a series of initiatives.

The benefactors included The Weller Centre, which was awarded £1,250 to provide affordable lunches for elderly people in Caversham and Bucket List Wishes, who were awarded £1,500 to continue granting wishes for terminally ill adults in Berkshire.

Meanwhile, Purley Pre-School in Tilehurst will use its £1,500 to improve the garden and outdoor play area, and Richard Witt Choices Mentoring CIC – based in Whitley – were granted £1,215 to continue delivering healthy cookery and sports sessions.

Finally, Reading-based Greyfriars Church will use its £750 grant on a conversational kitchen project to combat isolation and The 1st Woodley Boys Brigade have been granted £770 to update its outdoor activity equipment which helps children learn about the environment.

Sarah White, area development manager at Miles and Daughters, said: “We love hearing about the projects going on across the areas we serve, and it gives me such huge pleasure to support them with these grants.

“It’s great to be able to offer assistance to schemes supporting people both young and old, and ones which are helping to teach people new skills.”

She added: “I hope we can continue to build relationships with these charities and groups and find out how our community fund has made a difference to them.”
