The Martins Funeral Directors, a long-established funeral home in Crawley, West Sussex, has been acquired by Funeral Partners, marking a new phase in the business’s development.

The company, founded by Peter and Jenny Martin in 2001, has served the local community for more than two decades and is based in Broadfield Barton. It was previously sold to Alex Jones Funeral Directors in 2017 after the founders retired.

Story Stream: More on Funeral Partners

The business is led by funeral manager Adrian Cartwright, who joined The Martins 16 years ago and will continue to run the branch following the acquisition. The existing team will also remain in place.

Cartwright said: “It’s still the same team, the same faces, and the same care our families have always known. Funeral Partners understands that The Martins’ strength lies in its local knowledge and personal service.”

Cartwright entered the funeral profession after earlier roles in psychiatric care and hospitality, following a career path established by his father. He was trained by the Martins and has overseen the business through its previous change of ownership.

He is supported by funeral arranger Vicky Byrne, funeral director Ian Austin and funeral administrator Natalie Cantellow. The team works with families from a range of faiths and backgrounds across Crawley.

According to the company, the acquisition will bring additional investment and operational support, including refurbishment of the premises and upgraded technology. The Martins will continue to trade under its existing name.

Sam Kershaw, chief executive of Funeral Partners, said: “The Martins has a proud reputation for care and professionalism built over decades. Our focus is on preserving the heritage and individuality of each business while providing the support needed to help it continue operating sustainably.”
