Funeral Partners has expanded its presence in Wales with the acquisition of Caerphilly Funeral Services.

The family-run business, established in 1989 and owned by Dean Thomas since 2004, will continue operating under its existing name. Thomas has moved into a new role as business principal, with daily operations now led by his team.

James Rees, formerly general manager at Caerphilly Funeral Services, has been promoted to area development manager for Funeral Partners in Wales. Rees began his career with the firm at 21 and is now a qualified funeral director.

Rees said: “It’s a challenge, but one I am really excited about. Being part of Funeral Partners means everyone has access to great personal and career development opportunities and mine has come about very quickly.

“Caerphilly Funeral Services is very close to my heart. I have done almost every job possible in the funeral home since I started, and I’m proud of the standing we have in our community. I love working in funerals and helping the families who trust us with their loved one’s final goodbye – it is an absolute honour and a privilege.”

He added: “The team is enthusiastic about the future and the expanded resources now available to us, including added support in marketing, administration, HR and other key areas.”

Sam Kershaw, chief executive of Funeral Partners, said: “Caerphilly Funeral Services has become embedded in the local community and has an excellent reputation for looking after the bereaved. We welcome Dean and the team to the Funeral Partners family.

“This is an exciting expansion of our funeral director presence in Wales and I know James will make a success of his new role, continuing to support the team on the ground as well as bringing his wealth of experience to the operational management team.”
