A.W. Lymn secures plans for cemetery to be built near Calverton

A.W. Lymn has been given the green light to build a new cemetery near Calverton, marking the first cemetery to be owned by the fifth generation family firm of funeral directors.

With 17 acres of burial space within the 27-acre site, A.W. Lymn plans to extend the site to create a mixed traditional, natural and woodland burial ground, erection of facilities building and associated car park.

Additionally, the application stated that visual screening of the site from the adjacent residential properties and golf course would be put in place.

The cemetery is located off George’s Lane outside the village, and the plans were accepted by Gedling Borough Council on 27 July.

This forms part of the business’s ongoing expansion plans across the region to support local communities.

Pete Clarson, commercial director at A.W. Lymn, said: “We’re very pleased that the application has been accepted by the council, who were in unanimous support of our plans. 

“We plan to create a multi-functional cemetery capable of supporting a variety of burial options, respecting the character of the site’s rural context, and enhancing the potential of the site for wildlife.” 

He added: “This is the first cemetery the Lymn Rose family business will have owned, which is a significant step for us. We’re continuously looking for ways we can expand our service offering to those in the region and this cemetery would allow exactly that.”
