The qualifications have been awarded to Nikki Anderson, of A.W Lymn’s Ilkeston funeral home, and Andrew Brown of its West Bridgford funeral home.
Anderson has passed her DipFAA (Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration) and Brown has been awarded his DipFD (Diploma in Funeral Directing) after a year’s worth of intense study, coursework, practical assessment and examination – all taking place alongside their jobs.
Brown, who has worked for A.W Lymn for nearly three years, passed his DipFAA last year and has swiftly progressed through his DipFD. The firm said he will be directing his first funeral in the coming weeks.
Funeral director and NAFD accredited tutor Dominic Lister, who has worked for A.W Lymn for more than a decade, said he was “very proud” of the pair for upholding the business’s 100% pass rate for the NAFD exams. In the last three years, Lister has tutored 12 A.W Lymn staff through the DipFAA and four through the DipFD.
Lister, who is one of only 18 NAFD accredited tutors in the UK and Northern Ireland, said: “We’re thrilled that Andrew and Nikki have passed their diplomas and very proud of how hard they both worked in what has been such a tumultuous and challenging year for everyone. They have completed their studies alongside working, which is no mean feat. They have had to attend monthly classes, write 10 reports, sit two exams and arrange a funeral in front of an examiner.
“For Andrew’s Diploma, he’s had to write 13,000 and 18,000 word reports – which is akin to the length of a dissertation. The day you hang your DipFD on the wall is a very proud day and I’m sure Nikki will be one of the next to do so. Congratulations to both of them on their exceptional achievements this year.”
A.W. Lymn operates 27 funeral homes throughout Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire, with its head office in the centre of Nottingham, just off Sneinton market place.
