Undertakers to build pyramid with cremated remains for yearly ritual

Ceremonial undertakers, The Green Funeral Company, are to build a pyramid using bricks filled with cremated remains to mark the Toxteth Day of the Dead on 23 November 2018.

The company has teamed up with Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty (formerly of the British electronic band KLF) to form Callender, Callender, Cauty and Drummond Undertakers (CCC&D) and carry out the pyramid building process, also known as MuMufication.

This will be the first Toxteth Day of the Dead and CCC&D hopes this will be an event which creates a new tradition for thousands of years to come.

The People’s Pyramid will be 23 feet high, eventually contain the remains of 34,592 people in its Bricks of Mu and will be laid on its foundation stone in Toxteth, Liverpool. When the last brick is laid, the pyramid will be complete.

MuMufication is the act of having 23 grams of cremated remains fired in a Brick of Mu. Each person who signs up to be MuMufied will receive a signed and stamped Certificate of MuMufication and after they pass, their remains will be laid on the People’s Pyramid during next Toxteth Day of the Dead.

There will also be a Toxteth Book of the Dead to log all the names, dates of birth, contact details and signatures of those that have signed up for having a small portion of their cremated remains MuMufied.

Claire and Ru Callender, of the Green Funeral Company, will be at Toxteth Town Hall to explain MuMufication and talk about of life and death. They will also be overseeing the laying of the first Bricks of Mu. This will be undertaken by qualified bricklayer Daisy Eris Campbell.
