Funeral Partners chief executive, Sam Kershaw, has slept outdoors in Central London on a cold February night to raise funds for the youth homelessness charity Centrepoint.

Kershaw, who raised nearly £2k, joined approximately 150 supporters on the terrace of Somerset House on 6 February. The fundraisers aimed to contribute to a £118k target for the charity.

It comes as Centrepoint estimates that more than 118,000 young people face homelessness every year. The charity provides accommodation, health support, and life skills to those in need.

Kershaw’s involvement in the challenge was motivated by his personal experiences during 2025. He assisted two individuals who became homeless, including a young mother fleeing an abusive relationship.

Supporters stayed in a secure environment rather than attempting to replicate rough sleeping. The evening included group discussions and personal stories from those affected by homelessness.

Kershaw said: “The reality of having nowhere is incredibly daunting. From not being able to charge a phone to having no means of washing and storing clothes, or even access to a toilet, every part of daily life becomes a challenge.

“Even navigating the benefits system is almost impossible without internet access or a temporary address. Seeing this first-hand made me determined to do something to help.”

He added: “I’m not fit enough to run a marathon and too ‘chicken’ to attempt a skydive. So I chose something I excel at – sleeping. The event was incredibly informative and rewarding, and it reinforced just how important Centrepoint’s work is.”
