The Vegan Society has created an online Memorial Tribute Wall for people to post messages and photographs honouring loved ones who influenced their lives and values.
The charity said the space is intended for memories of both humans and animals, including family members, friends, companion animals and rescued animals connected to sanctuaries.
Legacy team member Theresa Murphy said the idea emerged following discussions with Qian Zephaniah about how best to commemorate her late husband, the poet and activist Benjamin Zephaniah.
Murphy said: “We wanted to leave a lasting tribute on our website to Benjamin and we agreed that he would have loved the idea of sharing an inspirational space in the digital universe with other like-minded, compassionate and caring people.”
Zephaniah’s tribute is the first to appear on the new platform. There is no charge to post a tribute, though the charity said donations to support its work are welcome.
Murphy added: “It feels profoundly fitting that Benjamin’s first tribute here is with The Vegan Society, a cause woven into the fabric of his being. He lived his life by a simple, powerful principle: to do the least harm and the most good. This vegan ethic was the heartbeat of his existence, guiding him from the global stage to the peace of our home. It is an immense honour to share his memory here.
“The Memorial Tribute Wall is a place where love, compassion and memories meet. I am so excited to share this space with our community and to inspire compassion through every story told.”
