A children’s adventure playground is getting an environmentally friendly boost through the ‘Plan Bee’ campaign run by Co-operative Funeralcare.

Blacon Adventure Playground in Chester has been the beneficiary of 60 packets of wildflower seeds in an effort to attract butterflies, bees and other wildlife to the play area.

The scheme, which was launched three years ago, supports research into the British honeybee, and aims to take action on pesticide usage – and has already seen more than one million packets of wildflower seeds distributed.

Manager of the playground Paul Noon said: “We are creating a wildflower area within the grounds, so we are really grateful for the seeds to give the section an initial boost.”

The seeds are sown throughout October to allow flowering the following July, August and September.
