The Westerleigh Group has appointed Sam Cunningham as the new site manager for Cam Valley Crematorium, which serves the communities of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Cunningham has spent nine years in the industry, and after working for another company in the same sector, Cunningham’s first job with the Westerleigh Group was as a crematorium attendant at Cam Valley.

He was a crematorium attendant for six months before accepting the site manager role. It marks his first managerial role at the facility.

In his new role, Cunningham said he will develop the gardens at Cam Valley, with an “eclectic” range of flora.

Cam Valley Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group which has 35 sites in England, Scotland and Wales.

Cunningham said: “I was very excited when I was offered the post, it was a nice boost of confidence.

“My main focus now is to settle in and become a worthwhile successor to Claire Butcher, who has moved to another Westerleigh Group crematorium, West Suffolk.”
