Funeral service staff race for Daisy Chain

Eight staff from five funeral homes united to raise over £700 for a local autism charity by entering a dragon boat race on the River Tees.

The staff, from Co-operative Funeralcare branches in Stockton, Billingham, Sedgefield and Middlesbrough, reached the quarter finals of the ninth annual dragon boat race in aid of the Daisy Chain charity.

Funeral home manager David Knowles; funeral directors Eddy Miller, Clare Colquhoun, Amanda Parker, Rebekah Taylor; and driver/bearers Danny Dales, James Foster and Dave Parry made up the team.

David said: “This is the fifth time we have participated and we really made a splash. The team put a great effort in and although we didn’t win we managed to raise a magnificent amount for a charity which supports many local families.”

Daisy Chain provides opportunities for young people with autism to get together and develop their social skills, as well as providing respite, activity days and support for other members of the family.
