Rushmoor Borough Council has reopened Aldershot Crematorium following a major refurbishment that was carried out over the past year.
The upgrade has modernised the long-established facility, which has served Aldershot, Farnborough and surrounding areas since 1960, and includes a second cremator, a new roof and external cladding, and an extended covered entrance.
Access for people with disabilities has been improved, alongside upgraded insulation and the installation of solar panels as part of the council’s climate change commitments.
The chapel has also been refurbished, increasing seating capacity to up to 100 mourners. A new picture window now overlooks the memorial grounds, while the hall of remembrance has been updated and is ready to reopen to visitors.
Councillors and council staff marked the completion of the work at an event on 18 December, where councillor Christine Guinness, cabinet member for pride in place and neighbourhood services, unveiled a commemorative plaque.
Guinness said: “Aldershot Crematorium is such an important local facility which has been part of our community since 1960, supporting not only the residents of Aldershot and Farnborough, but also the wider area. I am delighted to see it refurbished with so much care and attention.
“The crematorium has always offered a unique and beautiful setting for funeral services and it’s fitting that we now have a new modern facility that sits alongside the services provided by our compassionate and experienced bereavement services team.”
Funeral services are due to resume at the crematorium from 5 January 2026.
In the meantime, the memorial gardens will remain open to the public over the Christmas period. A memorial Christmas tree has been installed in the hall of remembrance, where visitors can write messages for loved ones and tie them to the tree.
The crematorium grounds will be open daily throughout the festive season, from 9am to 5pm on weekdays, and from 10am to 4pm on weekends and bank holidays.
