Bristol Memorial Woodland Trust has announced an upcoming workshop on lasting powers of attorney (LPAs) in January 2026, as part of a wider programme of events linked to its recently launched end-of-life resources.

The session will take place at Memorial Woodlands in Earthcott Green, and is aimed at both professionals and members of the public seeking guidance on how LPAs work and how to put them in place.

News comes after the charity launched its end-of-life resources earlier in 2025 after working with North Bristol NHS Trust and Gentle Dusk to produce two booklets designed to help people manage the practical and emotional issues following a death.

The Trust said feedback from healthcare professionals and bereaved families had prompted it to expand that work through a series of workshops offering more in-depth support.

The forthcoming event will focus on LPAs, which allow individuals to appoint someone they trust to make decisions about health, welfare, property or finances if they lose the capacity to do so themselves.

According to the organisers, the workshop will explain the key elements of LPAs, outline the steps involved in completing the documents and highlight common mistakes to avoid. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and receive independent advice.

The session will be led by health psychologist Mireille Herbert Hayden, founding director of Gentle Dusk, alongside Maria Piroli, a Gentle Dusk associate specialising in LPAs, wills and funeral planning.

Hayden said: “Putting a Lasting Power of Attorney in place is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and the people you love. This session is about simplifying the process, sharing practical guidance and giving people the confidence to make informed choices about their future.”

The workshop will run on Thursday 22 January from 2pm to 4pm. It is open to anyone who wants to better understand LPAs for personal reasons or to support others.
