On November 30, children’s funerals became a topic of discussion in the House of Commons during Prime Minster’s Question Time.

Labour MP for Rhondda, Chris Bryant, said that the average cost of a child’s funeral is more than £3,000 and some councils charge more. He recommended that there should be “no means-testing or postcode lottery”.

In her reply Prime Minister Theresa May recognised the issue and said there are measures in place for families in financial hardship. She stated that the issue was left to local authorities – some of whom have agreed to waive fees.
