Scotmid invites families to pay tribute with memorial Christmas trees

Scotmid Co-operative funeral directors have set up memorial Christmas trees in their funeral homes as part of a special initiative for the bereaved family and friends they have served during 2012.

People wishing to take part have been invited to write their loved one’s name and a personal message on a tag to be displayed on the memorial Christmas tree, and a collection is also being held to raise funds for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

Head of funerals James Blackburn said that “Christmas can be a difficult time” for those who’ve lost a loved one.

“Our memorial Christmas trees provide a special opportunity for the families we have served to pay tribute and come together as part of the Scotmid Co-operative family,” he added.

Scotmid funeral directors will also be making annual donations of £200 each to a number of charities and community groups in lieu of Christmas gifts, including the Yellow Pot Tea Club, which looks after children with learning difficulties; the Edinburgh Junior Pipe Band; and Gorgie City Farm.

All families that have been served by Scotland’s largest independent co-operative will be receiving a letter and memorial tag by post, and the memorial trees will be on display until 31 December.
