St Helens Bereavement Service has announced it has been shortlisted for a national award recognising high standards in cemetery and crematorium management.
The team at St Helens Borough Council is in the running for the Cemetery of the Year Award, having previously received Silver for five consecutive years. They now hope recent investments and community support will help secure a Gold award.
The competition, supported by industry bodies including the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) and the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities (FBCA), aims to promote best practice in burial ground maintenance and bereavement services.
Cllr Trisha Long, cabinet member for safer, stronger communities at St Helens Borough Council, said: “I have seen first hand the dedication and commitment of our bereavement team in providing a service of the highest quality and with enormous compassion to support our residents at an incredibly difficult time.”
She added that the grounds at St Helens Cemetery and Crematorium, which have been awarded a Community Green Flag, reflect the “hard work of the wonderful volunteers at the Friends of St Helens Cemetery”.
Winners of the Cemetery of the Year Award will be announced in October.
