Funeral directors organise nine-mile night walk for hospice

Funeral directors from Dignity’s branches in Portsmouth, Havant and Gosport are set to take part in a socially-distanced charity walk to raise money for Rowans Hospice in Hampshire on 24 October.

Rowans Hospice provides palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses and has faced financial difficulties due to Covid-19.

The ‘Moon & Stars Memories Walk’, which has been organised by the hospice, will start at 5pm and see the funeral directors walk in groups of five to support the charity, with the aim of raising £1,500.

Having already raised £1,075, the group from seven Dignity branches will walk south towards the Hayling Billy coastal path before heading back to Havant.

Rebecca Lambert, organiser of the walk and business manager at Dignity branches in the Portsmouth, Havant and Gosport area, said: “As funeral directors, supporting the communities we live and work in is of utmost importance to us.

“Rowans Hospice does fantastic work and has supported many of the friends and families we have served during the past year, and so being able to take part in this weekend’s charity walk fills us with immense pride.”

She added: “We know what a challenging time this year has been for our local community, particularly for those who are bereaved, and it is absolutely right that we not only reflect and remember those we have lost, but support the important work that charities like Rowans Hospice provide in those moments of need.”
