Co-op Funeralcare colleague given Life Saving Intervention Award

The bravery of Co-op Funeralcare colleague Shane Kybett has been acknowledged by the Sussex Police force after he saved the lives of two people.

Kybett was selected by the Divisional Commander to receive the Life Saving Intervention Award at this year’s Brighton and Hove Divisional Police Awards. He was nominated for the award after his actions saved the lives of two women in the space of 24 hours.

Whilst out patrolling the beach as part of his second job as a Response Security Worker, Kybett prevented a woman from walking into the sea and remained with her until the police and ambulance service arrived.

On the same evening, he came across a second women who had stopped breathing. He managed to resuscitate her before the emergency services arrived, ultimately saving her life.

Kybett was presented with his award at the British Airways i360 Tower by divisional Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell.

Kybett, funeral service crew at Co-op Funeralcare said: “I am truly touched and honoured to have been nominated for such a meaningful award. In my eyes, I was just doing what anyone else would have done in the same situation.”

Chief superintendent Lisa Bell added: “The awards were a chance to see the breadth of policing and active citizenship across the city and recognise those people, such as Shane, who have gone above and beyond what is expected. It is the tireless and selfless efforts of those who have been recognised that keeps our communities in Brighton and Hove safe and secures the trust and confidence of the public.”
