Funeral Partners network member, Howard’s Funeral Directors, has awarded a £1k grant from its community assistance programme to the volunteer-run Cornerstone Library in Churchtown, funding its local operations.
North Meols Library Association, a community-run charity, manages the library. The funding was awarded during the second round of the funeral directors’ 2025 grant cycle.
The programme aims to support activities within a three-mile radius of funeral homes in Roe Lane, Southport and Station Road, Ainsdale. Projects must focus on health, education, employment, or poverty.
The first funding cycle in 2025 previously awarded a total of £1k to St Stephen’s Coffee, Bebe’s Hive CIC, Cradle, and Cherish Lipreading for various community programmes.
A third round of funding is scheduled to open on 16 February 2026. Applications for this final cycle of the year will close on 29 March 2026.
Derek Crawford, funeral director at Howard’s, said: “The Cornerstone Library is doing wonderful work to provide a safe, accessible space to support the local community and provide literacy development and lifelong learning to all.
“We are incredibly proud to support such a meaningful project in our local community. It is our absolute privilege to help them continue making a difference.”
