A.W. Lymn in the East Midlands has raised more than £13k for We are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC), a charity supporting people with leukodystrophy – a rare genetic disorder affecting the central nervous system.

The family-run funeral provider has donated the funds over two years, with its most recent charity golf day generating over £7k for the charity.

The latest event saw a record turnout, with 18 teams taking part in the tournament, followed by a fundraising auction.

Ben Percival, a fifth-generation member of A.W. Lymn, great-great-grandson of founder Arthur William Lymn, said: “We are proud to hold ourselves to strong community values and a commitment to doing our part to help the families we serve. It’s wonderful to see the level of support our charity day has received, and we’re delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for an organisation doing such invaluable work.

“Having been diagnosed with leukodystrophy myself, Alex TLC is a cause I and the business hold close to our hearts. The A.W. Lymn team’s commitment to helping others, through events such as these, is incredibly admirable and we couldn’t be prouder of the time our staff dedicate to supporting wonderful initiatives such as these.”

Founded in 2005, Alex TLC provides information and support for people affected by leukodystrophies, a group of disorders that primarily affect the white matter of the brain and spinal cord. It is the only UK charity dedicated to the condition and is recognised internationally for its work.
