Hillier Funeral Service has opened a new branch in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, after completing a renovation of Grade II-listed Lime Kiln House.
The Swindon-based family company acquired the former radio station in October 2024 and has spent the past year restoring the building ahead of a formal launch which took place last week (27 November).
Around one hundred and fifty guests – including ministers, celebrants, nursing home representatives, industry figures, doctors, councillors and the mayor of Royal Wootton Bassett, Steve Bucknell – attended the opening. The event included speeches from director Rebecca Hillier, Reverend Canon Jane Curtis, the mayor and town crier.
Rebecca Hillier, who oversaw the project with managing director Mark Hillier, said: “It’s amazing to see how we have transformed this building into what it is today. This marks a new era not just for the building, but for Hillier’s as a whole.
“Seeing everyone here tonight shows the impact we have and what community means to us. Our families can always rely on us, and now they have another place they can come to in their time of need.”
She added: “To continue in the footsteps of my family and to demonstrate that independent funeral homes can continue to grow and remain pillars of their community is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
The project is the second such refurbishment led by Rebecca and Mark Hillier. According to Mark Hillier, the decision to restore the building was linked to the firm’s support for preserving local character.
Mark Hillier said: “Restoring old buildings reflects our dedication to maintaining the character of our towns and ensuring that their heritage continues to thrive for future generations.
“By choosing to renovate, we’re not just honouring the past; we’re creating a space that will serve the community for years to come.
“This new funeral home will be a place of comfort, reflection and support, embodying our promise to always prioritise the needs of local families.”
