Mears Family Funerals has opened a new branch in Downham, marking the 13th site in its network and extending its coverage across south east London, Aylesbury, Walthamstow and Southampton.

The branch occupies a refurbished building on a site that has housed funeral directors for more than 100 years. The company said the opening continues a long-standing tradition of local provision while adding updated facilities for visitors.

The Downham premises include a private chapel of rest and rooms designed to offer a quiet setting for families making arrangements. The firm said the design reflects its aim to provide a calm and personal environment.

A spokesperson said: “We’re honoured to bring Mears Family Funerals to Downham. This location has supported local families for generations, and we are proud to continue that heritage with the same dedication and compassion that guide all our branches.”

Mears Family Funerals, which began in south east London, said it remains focused on offering personal and affordable services as it expands.
