A.W. Lymn has revealed that it is investing £350k in refurbishment works at Hammerwich Crematorium and Cemetery in Lichfield, ahead of an official reopening on 3 October.
The family-run company, founded in Nottingham in 1907, acquired the eight-acre site last year. Previously known as Chase and District Memorial Park, it was rebranded Hammerwich Crematorium and Cemetery earlier this year.
The works include a full chapel refurbishment with new doors, ceiling and air conditioning, as well as a new audio-visual system with speakers and flat screens. A canopy is being installed for vehicles entering and leaving the site, while the grounds have been re-tarmacked.
Car parking capacity is also being expanded from 19 to 52 spaces.
Pete Clarson, commercial director at A.W. Lymn, said: “Since acquiring Hammerwich, the number of cremations being conducted here has already doubled – and that’s before our refurbishment works have been completed.
“It is wonderful to see Hammerwich Crematorium and Cemetery undergoing such a transformation. Our investment reflects our commitment to providing families with dignified, comfortable surroundings capable of modern and traditional services.”
Jane Baker, manager of Hammerwich Crematorium and Cemetery, added: “It’s incredibly exciting to witness this level of care and investment being brought into the site. A.W. Lymn’s vision for Hammerwich aligns perfectly with our hopes for the future.”
The company, which operates 25 branches across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, said further investment in site infrastructure and staff support was planned.
