Funeral Partners adds Hammerton Funeral Directors to its portfolio

Funeral Partners has announced it has added Hammerton’s Funeral Directors of South Yorkshire to its portfolio, which now has more than 200 funeral homes across the UK.

Established for more than 200 years, Hammertons has its roots in Worsborough Dale, where it was the local undertakers, wheelwrights and joinery business.

In 1977 Ian Hammerton took over the established business of nearby funeral director George Bateman and, in 2011, relocated it to purpose-built premises in Goldthorpe, near Rotherham.

After Hammerton sadly died in 2014, his wife Jane Hammerton took over the running of the business’ three funeral homes, which include Wombwell Funeral Services in Wombwell.

Phil Barr, regional development director for Funeral Partners in the North of England, said: “This is a thriving business and I look forward to working with the operational team, who will remain with Hammerton’s to build on their strong reputation for caring for local families and supporting their communities.

“Although Jane will be stepping back from day to day operations, she will continue to support us.”

Sam Kershaw, CEO of Funeral Partners, added: “Funeral Partners is continuing its strategy of growth through acquisition and we are delighted to welcome the team at Hammerton’s to our family.  We are committed to maintaining the heritage of our family businesses, while investing in their future.”
