Partnership uses music to help the bereaved

Plymouth Music Zone has joined together with St Luke’s Hospice in Plymouth to partner in helping local people coping with bereavement.

The aim of the “In the Zone” music sessions is to provide opportunities for anyone who has lost a loved one to meet others in a similar situation as well as make friends and make music together.

Plymouth Music Zone’s executive director, Debbie Geraghty says: “We’re very moved at Plymouth Music Zone to finally have the chance to join up with St Luke’s to offer this additional support to people in the city facing bereavement.

“Music can often offer much needed solace during challenging times and give a sense of hope when it’s needed most.

“We look forward to developing this innovative community partnership further to bring musical respite and improved wellbeing to as many people as possible.”

The chief executive of St Luke’s Hospice, Steve Statham says:“Bereavement support is an important aspect of the care we provide here at St Luke’s.

“We hope that those who are going through a bereavement will come along to the sessions and be able to meet and socialise with like-minded people who are going through the same experience.”

Sessions will be held every fortnight at St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, Stamford Road, Turnchapel, Plymouth PL9 9XA.
