Thousands of fans watch gamer’s funeral live online

The funeral of an American professional video gamer has been streamed live on the gaming platform Twitch.

Phillip Klemenov, known as Phizzurp died aged 24 following a car crash.

The funeral was made viewable in a nine minute long feature within Phillip Klemenov’s Twitch channel, which has been viewed more than 30,000 times.

He was known for making videos playing Call of Duty and had been a part of the professional team H2K.

Luke Plunkett wrote on the gaming website Kotaku.”Twitch may not seem the ideal platform for this kind of event, given its chat system’s reputation,”

“But the sections I saw – and to be honest, I only saw a little because I was uncomfortable ‘peeking in’ on the funeral of a person I did not know – were full of fans remembering the impact Klemenov had on their lives and leaving comments of genuine thanks and respect.”

Gaming website UMG will host the first annual competition #Phizzurp10K in memory of Phillip Klemenov.

The company wrote on their website: “We lost one of our own, but his memory will always remain.”
